Welcome to the C.I.T.Y. Skills Training Consortium on-line, your source for the latest information about the C.I.T.Y. Programs of Alabama.  We invite you to have a look around and discover how the programs serve the needs of troubled youth throughout Alabama.

News from the C.I.T.Y.

  • Supplemental Appropriation Secured
Governor Riley signed HB 751 into law Thursday, May 14, 2009.  The bill provides supplemental appropriations for several agencies, including just over $1M for C.I.T.Y.  These additional funds should allow C.I.T.Y. to continue operations for the remainder of the current fiscal year.  C.I.T.Y. would again like to thank members of the Senate, House of Respresentatives, Governor Riley, and especially the Alabama Education Association and our local supporters, without whom we may not have survived.
  • C.I.T.Y. on the Move
While next year's Education Trust Fund budget funds C.I.T.Y. at approximately the same level as the current year, it also includes a significant change.  The agency will move from its current home under the Department of Postsecondary Education to the Department of Youth Services.  While the details will take time to work through, the new home provides a more stable and appropriate placement for C.I.T.Y.
  • Hope for the Future

While C.I.T.Y. still faces a significant budget shortfall this year, an important development offers hope.  The Alabama Senate and House of Representatives passed the Education Trust Fund budget, subsequently signed by Governor Riley, that provides approximately $5.2M in funding next fiscal year.  We would like to sincerely thank members of the Senate, House of Representatives, the Alabama Education Association, Governor Riley, and, of course, our local supporters for working so hard to secure C.I.T.Y.'s future.  We could not have done it without you.

  • Interim Director Selected

Larry Palmer, Regional Coordinator and former Interim Director, was selected as C.I.T.Y.'s Interim Director once again by Dr. Steve Franks.  Mr. Palmer immediately began working to resolve C.I.T.Y.'s severe budget crisis.
